Wacky Wednesday

Another busy week in the Powers household.  We have lots of activities at school keeping all of us busy.  Today is Mia’s spring party (this is in lieu of an Easter party).  The kids are on spring break next week and we are all really happy to have a week off.  I am already planning things to do to keep them busy.  Let’s just hope that the weather cooperates.  We have been having nice weather here in Buffalo, so let’s hope it continues.

We just got a load of dirt dumped today and Bill will be starting the landscaping.  I say this with hesitation because I am a little unsure of the fact that he is doing this himself.  But the dirt is here and we will begin yet another project.

Congratulations goes out to Mary and Joel as the news was announced a little baby will be entering the family come fall.  The kids love having cousins to play with.

Tuesday Training

Ok, I admit it, I suck at running outside.  I have no idea what it is.  But if there was a treadmill 5K, I would be better at it than a regular one.  I attempted to run outside during our past week of beautiful weather and it was horrible.  I am in the process of finding a spinning class or some other type of class I can join.  I know my time  will be limited int he summer with the kids home from school and the Friday Pilates classes are really nothing worth talking about.  So if anyone has any suggestions on places where I can just sign up for a class like 2 or 3 times a week, let me know.  Otherwise I will still continue to run on the treadmill.

Almost April

Is it really almost Easter?  Do I really need to get a move on with the basket stuff?  What do I not like that much about spring?  The rain.  I guess it wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t have a dog.  Mud is the WORST!  Especially when you have to make sure it is not being tracked into the house on 4 paws.

What am I loving right now?  The new Chelsea Handler book, Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang.  It is great!  If anyone is familiar with her or her E! show, I really encourage you to check out one of her 3 books.  So entertaining in a fantastically amusing inappropriate way.  Read it, enjoy.  And I think you will be laughing out loud too.

Did I mention that we are onto Part 2 of The Great DS Search?  How can we lose Bailey’s DS for the second time?  Who knows.  I just know we are going on like 3 weeks of missing it and it is becoming very old, very quick.  I can’t take anymore of the fighting over the 1 DS we have left in the house.  Isn’t there a place I can go and have like a psychic tell me where it is or a prayer to some saint to guide me to finding it?  As you can see I am trying to use all my options…

Backsplash Drama

Because I cannot make a decision to save my life and because I know retiling the backsplash will not be an option if I hate it, I need to make a good decision on the tiles.  Brown.  Oh how I love brown.  But do I want my kitchen looking so dark?  I picked a tile, I think I love.  Do I want accent pieces?  Do I tile in that little space under the cabinet where there is really no cabinet underneath?  I have no idea!  And why do I keep looking online or in other people’s kitchens only to become more confused?  I was hoping this could be down this weekend.

Tuesday Training

So after the dreaded stomach flu hit our house, I have not stepped on the treadmill.  Believe me, not because I don[‘t need to, more I just haven’t felt like myself yet.  Tomorrow is the day.  But I did today wake up and head over to pilates.  My friends, Julie and Roseann and I have started back up at the good old church pilates thing.  I say started back up because Julie and I were going strong a few months back and then that fizzled, but we are back.  Roseann said she could hardly laugh or get off from the couch following last weeks class.  I guess that means it’s working…

Who do you think you are?

Is anyone else as interested in this show as I am?  I think NBC really picked up a good show this time around.  So the show is called Who Do You Think You Are?  and it follows a celebrity along as they search for their ancestors in different parts of the country or other countries.  So we are starting to dig into ours.  It’s kind of interesting what you can find when you start looking.  And although I don’t have the millions of dollars behind me like Brooke Sheilds or Emmitt Smith to go back in history, maybe I will find out that I am heir to a throne in some far off country.  A girl can only hope, right?

The Dreaded Stomach Bug

It happens, I know.  Kids get sick, parents get sick.  But it sucks, big time.  Bailey got a little funky thing happening to him on Tuesday night and was up almost the entire night sick.  So I kept him home from school Wednesday.  He pretty much laid around all day and didn’t eat a thing.  Wednesday night I was feeling it.  I was down for the count yesterday and Bailey was not doing much better, so he stayed home again.  Granted the life of a stay at home mom isn’t just sitting around the house all day.  There were plenty of appointments I had to cancel and things I couldn’t attend.  So when Mia walked in the door at 4pm and told me her stomach hurt, it was no surprise.  So, we were 3 down 1 to go.  Knock on wood Bill doesn’t get this.  Needless to say we are all better today.  The kids are back at school, I even made it to pilates and I yet to receive a call from the nurse saying to pick one of them up.  But gosh, I feel like I could still sleep for days.

The sins of a 7 year old…

Bailey made his first Reconciliation yesterday.  I still don’t think he knows what that means, but he learned the prayers, talked to the priest and had a cupcake at the end.  This year I decided to homeschool him in religious ed.  And this is not because I think I am a fab teacher or hold an abundance of knowledge in religion, it was purely selfish.  He never went before, we are not every week regulars at mass (maybe a couple times a month), and I did not want him to feel embarrassed by other kids in the class who were able to spit out the Hail Mary on the drop of a hat.  So I thought I could teach him.  I mean I did go to a Catholic school until 8th grade.  Let’s just say I had him sneak in a cheat sheet with what to do/say into confession with him complete with the “Act of Sorrow,” which by the way is not the good old “Act of Contrition” from my days.  But he did great.  We are all proud.  He got his sheep pin and we took plenty of pictures.

33 Things About Me…

Yes, I am now 33.  Wow, that seems like a big number.  But I am 33 today.  So in honor of the big day, I thought I would post 33 random silly things about me…

1.  I am obsessed with reading blogs.  2.  If the answer you need can be found on the internet, I can usually find it.  3.  I sometimes cannot stop thinking about other things until I find the right answer.  4.  I am hoping that soon I will figure out what I want to do when I grow up.  5.  The sound of styrofoam to me is like nails on a chalkboard  6.  I was never much a coffee drinker until I discovered flavored coffee and now I LOVE it.  7.  I am usually at the kids school twice a week volunteering somewhere.  8.  I could live on soup and sandwiches for the rest of my life and never get sick of them.  9.  I would say the same thing about chocolate as I love that as well.  10.  But my last meal would probably include lazy pierogi (I know, weird, right)  11.  I hate wearing socks to bed  12.  I hate wearing socks PERIOD  13.  I prefer comfort over fashion  14.  I could live in flipflops all summer and crocs in the winter (or right now my fake Uggs)  15.  I loving trying new things  16.  I can’t make a decision to save my life.  17.  I love coupons and try to find/print as many as I can before I go anyhere  18.  I hate putting folded clothes away.  I can wash them and fold them just fine, but putting them away SUCKS.  19.  The best decision I made was staying at home with the kids.  20.  I prefer early fall to all other seasons of the year  21.  I can’t ski and hope to learn that soon.  22.  Brown is my favorite color  23.  Drinking red wine (even a sip) will turn my face and neck instantly red  24.  My favorite movie of all time is SpaceCamp  25.  I still get up in the middle of the night to check on the kids  26.  I will be married for 10 years next year (wow.  time flies)  27.  I love trying new recipes  28.  I cook dinner almost every night of the month  29.  I prefer muffin bottoms to the tops of muffins (I hate when bakers put the crunchy sugar on top)  30.  I hate sprinkles.  I think they totally change the texture of a cookie or cake or whatever  31.  I hate returning things to stores  32.  I always think I have a great hair day on the day I have a haircut appointment set  33.  I love reading before I go to bed.

So that’s it.  33 random facts about me.  Nothing too serious or sentimental or crazy.  Just randomness.  And if I had a 34th thing it would be that I had a difficult time coming up with 33 things about myself.

Tuesday Training

So for those of you that may not know and may possibly care, Bill and I have been talking about doing a 5K.  Actually this came about after an email discussion I had with my great former room-mates from Disney.  I have to admit, I was a little jealous that they all had the tenacity to get out there and start running or joining a gym or whatever.  So in the hopes that I wasn’t the only one with a few pounds to lose sitting at the table with my friends at one of their weddings coming up in November, I was coerced into jumping on the treadmill.  Quickly the emails were sent about eventually doing a 10 or a 15 K in Disney come next year.  Yeah!  What fun (can you sense the sarcasm in my voice?)  but I will do it A) because I am yes following their lead, B) would love to see everyone try to run  a 10 or 15k run C) would love to do it in Disney where we all became friends D) do it in honor of our good friend Dickie who is no longer with us.  So I jumped on the “Couch to 5K” Program 5 weeks ago.  It has been tough.  I guess I have 3 more weeks to go, but I don’t think I am anywhere near a 5K.  I need to try a little harder.  Bill and I have decided both to do it and honestly, we are trying.  So that is my first training update.  Gearing up (right now) for a 5K in the hopes of next year doing the Disney 10 or 15K with my Disney friends.
