Dickie

I went to Boston this week for a quick trip to see my old roommate from Disney, Dickie. Her real name is Margaret Pham, but we call her Dickie. A few years ago Dickie was diagnosed with a non cancerous brain tumor and a cyst. She was at the time living in Chicago and training at Second City Improv Group. After the diagnosis, she had to fly back home to Boston and get treatments there. She has gone through radiation, chemo and surgeries and the doctors have finally told her and her family that there is nothing more they can do. She has just recently been pulled off any medications to decrease the tumor size and has now been transferred to Hospice Home Care. The other 4 roomies and I along with 2 great friends we met there traveled from all over the country to see her one last time before she goes. Here are some pictures from the day and a little link to a story about Dickie from the Dana Farber Institute. Please keep Dickie and her family in your thoughts.

I am so sorry to hear that Margaret is in hospice care. My mother roomed with her at Spaulding. Margaret was a great roommate who always kept my Mum laughing. The brain tumor was new for my mother, Margaret really helped her find some humor in the situation. I sent Margaret a shirt that said 'I have a brain tumor, what's your excuse' If you can send me any information on how Margaret is doing, please email me at emilydimson@hotmail.com

Margaret passed peacefully surrounded by loving family on Sat Sept 12,2009. A Celebration of Life Ceremony was held Sat. Sept.19 2009 and she was laid to rest at Mt. Hope Cemetary in Mattapan on a glorious autumn afternoon. Margaret will be remembered in love and laughter.
