We took the LONG drive down to Charlotte last week to see Bill’s family and had a great time. Although the weather was VERY rainy for Charlotte, we managed to squeeze a few things into the trip. Will definitely have to include horseback riding next time we go there. Great time!!
How is it that my baby is 9 years old already?!? Where the hell did all these years go? Mia is quite a little lady. SHe has her own style, her own mindset and we love that (most of the time). She is 9 going on 18! She is uber competitive and wants to be #1. She is kind, compassionate and loving. She is the best daughter 2 parents could ask for. We celebrated her birthday in Charlotte, NC this year and her choice of restaurant, Sonic. Happy Birthday, Sweet Amelia!!!!
We took the kids to their first official concert! Kiss the Summer Hello was in June. We knew like 1 song from each group that performed. I think we may have to go to the Kissmas Bash now come December.
In an effort to try and keep up with the blog, let me tell you about last month. We finished school. We are officially done with the elementary school. Mia has moved up to the 4-5-6 building and we are happy to have 1 year where we have both kids on the same schedule!
I have a little summer part time job that I am loving right now. The people watching is stellar, the outfits I see are crazy, the people I work with are fun. I am serving beer at Thursdays at Canalside (formerly Thursdays in the Square). It’s great. I get paid, get to listen to some bands, get to eat and drink, and work with my friend for the summer. Fun! Fun! C’mon down and see me…
Now, I am saying this in the most loving way possible – THANK GOD IT’S OVER! And not school, I am talking about the 5 million class trips. I have chosen the path of staying home and heeding the every whim of my children. It’s my job and I mostly enjoy it. But, my God, June KILLS me. It isn’t enough to have 100 million pieces of paper to look at, it is another thing to schedule every single field trip for the last month of school and to have my 2 children look at me with their sad eyes and ask me to go too. The last week of school, I was there or with those classes 4 out of the 5 school days. A friend at book club recently told us all that she has filled out the form with a giant YES so that her son/daughter can bring in his/her happy note to school and promptly emails the teacher and tells her that she can’t do it and to just randomly choose a different name. LOVE IT! Don’t get me wrong, I Love helping out. I love being there. I love being with my kids and their friends. I wanted to be that parent. But that last week KILLED me. I give you a lot of credit teachers, I couldn’t do that everyday (and did I mention, I do have a teaching degree) So here are some of my week activities… Camp Day, Pool Day, 3rd Grade class picnic, Fit Day. 1 week!!! AHHHHHH
Saw something similar on Pinterest a few weeks ago with flowers and thought, hmmmmmm I can do that. SO I did. As you can see, instead of the flowers, I wanted to do herbs. I bought a long green garden pole and 4 – 6inch pots. I have a silhouette machine at home so I cut out the letters and stenciled them on (this will help when I am asking Bailey or Mia to run outside and get me some without having them tell me they don’t know which is which). I hammered the pole into the ground to around the height I needed for all 4 pots to sit on it without it sticking out of the top. Since the pots have a hole in the bottom, I slid them one by one down the pole and tilted them on an angle and continued down alternating the pots. Filled them with soil and a baby herb plant and here we are! Cute and easy!
I am not a runner. I don’t pretend to be. I don’t get that special feeling from exercising that makes me want to do it again and again. I can tell you honestly, I am an eater, not a runner. But this year my friends and I decided to do the relay of the Buffalo Marathon. Being barely able to run from my couch to the refrigerator, I can say that running 6.1 miles or a solid 10k was a little daunting, but I still signed us up. The Lancaster Ladies (me, Jen, Jen and Connie) officially completed our first Buffalo Marathon. I say first because I can hear the rumblings that they want to do it again next year. At least the free spaghetti dinner the night before was a bonus. Will I stick with running??? Maybe, but not during the summer because um, it’s too hot and I don’t like sweating. Ha!!!! OK, OK maybe. Here we are. All 4 of us. Jen, Jen and I all ran 6.1 miles and Connie finished us up with 8. YEAH US!
The kids participated in their school’s mini Triathlon in May. It was really great to see all the work that school does to enrich the students in other areas besides academics. Here are a few pics from that day.
Mia made her 1st Holy Communion the Saturday before Mother’s Day and it was great. The weather wasn’t stellar, but the day was fantastic and she is very lucky to have such an amazing family that came to her party… Here are some pictures from her day. I am missing some pictures of her with us and her nana and papa and grandma and grandpa, but when I get those, I will post those as well.
