Yesterday was my birthday! Yeah! It was a pretty uneventful day since I had to work and grocery shop, but all in all, I am going to try to make this year the best yet! Thank you to everyone for your birthday wishes and gifts. My awesome husband gave me an ipad mini since I was constantly complaining about my 1st generation ipad. And so I celebrate the anniversary of my 29th birthday again.
I have been wanting to take the kids cross country skiing for a while now, basically because 1. I am NOT a downhill skier, 2. I don’t like to go really fast. 3. I have done it before and I think I would totally rock it again, 4. It’s great exercise. So we headed right near us to Reinstein Woods Nature Reserve and for the low price of $5 a pair, we got to rent skis. This should be on your winter to do list next year (or this year since we are facing ANOTHER polar vortex). So fun. And yes, I rocked it. I didn’t fall once. The kids on the other hand, HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Chlorine Nose… AHHHHH. Know what that is? That is what happens when you spend any significant amount of time in a an enclosed water park. I swear I can still smell it, and we have been home for a day. We had a great time AGAIN at the Kalahari water park in Sandusky, OH. We started this annual trip last year because we are only like 3 1/2 hours away and it is one of North America’s biggest water parks. Coupled with the fact the Ohio schools still have school during February break. It is not really crowded, there is lots to do, and Sandusky has a Sonic. So sign the Powers Family up! I wish I had more pics, but it is impossible to carry your iphone around with you in a waterpark.
Valentine’s Day was super successful at the Powers House! We normally don’t exchange (Bill and I) so needless to say I was VERY surprised that he got me a gift this year. It was a normal morning, as I was playing candy crush and talking to my friend Julie when I heard ringing and I thought Bill had left his cell phone at home. So I was on my hands and knees arounf the computer trying to find the mystery ring. Everntually I found it, an ipad mini box on the book shelf amongst the books. I wondered why Mia had puts hers back in the box and who was calling it. I opened it up and Bill was facetiming the ipad mini. That was my big gift! He got me an ipad mini!!!! You have to understand, my original model ipad was getting so old and kept crashing on me. YEAH! Bill!!!! He also had 2 dozen roses delivered for me toooooo!!!!!
The kids got their normal chocolate hearts with their names. Mia took claim to one of the dozen of flowers. And Bill got a wetsuit (from me, I guess). I very BIG Valentine’s Day this year!
Amelia has finished her first swim season ever. She did great! She managed to finished with her best in freestyle 50 meter in 37 seconds. Although she missed qualifying for states, I am sure she had a great time. Go Sharks! Looking forward to next year!
I know I should have posted about this sooner, but this year we had an even bigger Christmas light display thanks to my hard working husband. He bought many new sets of lights and was able to control a lot more of the individual bulbs with the new set up. He added many new songs and was able to do a lot more with the lights.
Bill decided to enter a little contest for light displays and we turned out to be one of their winners!!!! So, a very big thank you goes out to Hydrive Energy drink for choosing us this Christmas season. We are loving our energy water so much and the cash even more!!! If you haven’t had a chance to try some Hydrive yet, it is really great!!!
On Friday we had to put our dog, Holley, to sleep. For the past few weeks she was constantly going to the door to be let out. She would wake us about 5 times a night to be let out to pee. Bill brought her to the vet last month and they said it was possibly a UTI. So we treated her as such with antibiotics. That didn’t help. After many signs of blood in her urine we took her back with the diagnosis of bladder cancer. So after 13 years, we had to say goodbye.
Today I am sitting around and keeping warm. We have -25 degree windchill in WNY and the kids are off of school for the 2nd day in a row. Yesterday we cleaned, today we rest. I am warm under my down comforter, on top of the heated mattress pad and enjoying my favorite creamer in my hot cup of coffee. Happy Cold Day!
One of The Powers Family resolutions is to have a new dish a week. After looking through the various websites I frequent, we have tried a few new ones. This week, we tried the Pioneer Woman’s Peach Whiskey Chicken. Delicious!
We haven’t had a bad new recipe yet. I recommend, these Chicken & Biscuits and this Pot Roast recipe as well. Hopefully I will be better with my photo skills and take more pictures of our future new recipes.
